  • The Anime/Manga Recommendation List!

I added audio to the entry! It's the second ending theme of Yakitate! Japan and I love it!!!
This is a gigantic work in progress. I have lots of things to juggle and not so much time for sitting and updating myself on every anime and watching new ones...

And remember the categories are not definite.
Alphabetized list by category. Eventually, I will have pictures too (maybe).
    Color Code:
    P
    urple- Favorite!
    Blue- An Alright Anime
Red- To be avoided- Some of these are good for a laugh, but in general, they're just terrible.
*Blues will probably change, unless the series is complete and still blue*

    I'm getting my own website?!?!?!?!
    Maybe.
Bryan may let me use one of his sites to post his and my anime reviews. I'm going to try to do longer reviews and maybe videos.
To answer some comments, this was really a list meant for friends who wanted a place they could go to find all the anime I talk about. I didn't want to go in depth simply for spoiler reasons. This is not really the right forum for detailed discussions about meaning and philosophy of anime, this post is long as hell as it is.
For those recommending anime, I am trying to watch, I will eventually get around to them. I'm working my way through anime on gogoanime.com and Hulu.
    New: Bryan's reviews!
I guess I'll have them color-coded as well as have the font um.. trying to think of something visible... I guess they'll just be bolded for now (and in a different font). I'll try out colors and see if anything else looks good. He also scores them so... it's something different.

    Comedy

    1. Azumanga Daioh (completed anime)- This is just a really crazy/random schoolgirl anime, and I have to say I like the dub a lot (this is a rare comment from me) so if you're going to watch it, watch the dub. My complaint with the Japanese version is its hard to distinguish the characters, so the English voices really help a lot. The teachers really make this anime. I've just finished it, and its still just an okay anime. The funny is often countered by extreme creepiness. And sometimes it can be extremely irritating. I want Tomo to DIE a horrible, stabbity death.

    2. Bobobo-bobo-bobo- People/assorted... things... fighting each other because some evil people want to shave everyone's hair...? Though I found it really odd that a lot of the boss-like "hair-hunters" have lots of hair.. Anyway, if there's any anime to watch while high out of your mind, this is it. It's frightening that this is what Cartoon Network chose to put in Toonami for little children to watch. FIST OF THE NOSEHAIR!

    3. Bokusatsu Tenshi (Killer Beating Angel) Dokuro-Chan (completed anime)- It's funny in a very-no, scratch that- incredibly twisted way. It's short (8 15-minute episodes), although apparently they're creating another season. All about an angel who kills this poor kid and brings him back to life repeatedly. Good for a horrified laugh. Also excessively gory.

    4. Crayon Shin-Chan-
Drawn in a very cartoony, simple style, this show deals with a lot of what would be heavy social issues if they weren't so funny and light-hearted about it. One of the ending theme lines are "But then I close my eyes and try to smile. I know things are bad and getting worse. But after all this I can rest a while. And then I'll party, party." It's very sarcastic and cyncial, and the main character, Shin, is a little devil who likes to do the ass-shaking dance.

    5. Demon Diary- About a demon lord who is totally hopeless when it comes to actually being a demon lord. He's really a complete airhead and a cute "good guy" (he even transforms his "dark arrow" into a puppy!). Adorable and funny.

    5. Cyberteam in Akihabara- Okay, so I'm pretty sure that this show wasn't made to be a comedy. However, it's really just that laughably bad. The only way I can tolerate watching is to just take it like a comedy. It doesn't even make any sense, so I'm not going to try to explain it... okay, maybe I will. These three annoying/stupid (elementary school?) girls get these popular toys that somehow turn into adult versions of themselves and fight retarded/huge-titted bad guys, who are after them for no fucking reason! Also, they have a really goddamn creepy principle. I think the mayor in Excel Saga is a parody of him.

    6. Doujin Work (completed anime)- This is a really short series about a girl who wants to draw doujinshi (usually perverted fan manga) in order to make some money. The anime is pervy, but compared to the manga, it's fairly tame. It's still funny and rather cute.

    7. Excel Saga (completed anime)- About a brainless dolt (Excel) who works for the secret idealistic organization ACROSS under Illpalazzo. Needless to say, nothing ever goes right for Excel, and the anime is just weird. Every episode is a stylistic "experiment" that breaks the fourth wall at various intervals and crosses a lot of lines, especially in the last episode, "Going Too Far." Despite its bizarreness, I really like the anime. Though you have to kind of regulate how much of it you watch at a time. Too much Excel Saga kind of makes you a bit... off, I would say..?

    8. Familiar of Zero, The- A girl ( I can't remember her name) is a magic-user (noble) who can't ever get any magic right, earning her the title of "Zero." When her class summons their familiars, she ends of calling a boy from modern day Japan and he ends up being bound to her by the spell. Of course, he's not too happy about being her slave, but depends on her for food and such. He ends up being a natural sword fighter and protects her on numerous occassions. It's a pretty strange romantic comedy.

    9. FLCL (completed anime)- Very short 6 ep anime that makes no sense whatsoever. A lot of people says its about sexual awakening in the main character, which does kinda fit, but overall it's just another one of those really really weird animes I like. I've also heard that one of the purposes of the anime was to test a lot of special effects, which also makes sense considering how many are condensed into the series. Um, summary: Naota gets hit in the head with Haruko's (crazy older girl who rides a Vespa and likes baseball) guitar and robots start coming out of his head (and other people's heads) and fighting and such.

    10. Gintama (ongoing)- I'm really fuzzy on the bigger plot of this anime, but its basically about a group that will do anything for money. The setting is really odd, it's like futuristic feudal era or something. It's got pretty good gags and it makes some Bleach references. So I've seen up through episode 62 and this anime is awesome. It's got some real oddball and some hardcore otaku humor but if you like that stuff it's so cool. And it's really easy to pick up, or jump in wherever.

    11. Golden Boy-
About this pervy guy who travels around on his bike picking up odd jobs and hitting on the sexy women he encounters. He's surprisingly nice/smart, and incredibly unlucky with women, giving the anime its really strange appeal.

    12. Hayate the Combat Butler-
Pure parody comedy. I think once I see more this may become a favorite. Hayate has terrible parents who give him their debt for Christmas, and so he works for a rich girl who thinks that he loves her as her butler in order to pay off the debt when she gets him out of trouble. In exchange, he protects her from various kidnappers with his life, as well as taking care of normal servant tasks.

    13.
    Jungle De Ikou (completed anime)-
Ugh. This is a 3 ep, overly sexual fanservice comedy. About a girl who can transform into a goddess who has to suppress a god of destruction using very... er... "bouncy" dances. Sometimes its kind of funny but... overall... not really... But then again, I'm not a dude, so the fanservice doesn't really grab my attention.

    14. Karin/Chibi Vampire (completed anime)- About a poor mutant vampire (and middle child to a family of vampires) that has no vampiric traits except that she herself must get rid of excesses of blood by biting humans, otherwise suffer an extremely exaggerated nosebleed. It's a pretty decent romantic comedy, though the first four episodes get a little repetitive (If I had a buck for every time she runs away in the first 4 eps alone I'd be rich....) After that it gets a lot better. The end is pretty cool too.

    15. Lucky Star- About a girl obsessed with anime and video games (in other words, a typical otaku). I've only seen a couple eps so I'm not sure if this show even HAS a larger plot. Though I'm pretty sure the characters aren't, they all look and converse as if they're grade schoolers, which is kind of creepy. Seriously, though, they talk about food and the proper way to eat certain foods all the time. It's just weird.

    16. Maburaho (completed anime)- Kazuki Shikimori goes to an elite magic school, even though prestige is determined by how many times you can use magic and Shikimori can only use it eight times when most of his classmates are in the thousands. However, his bloodline is extremely powerful and when this is revealed, all the girls are after his "genes." All sorts of magical craziness ensues.

    17. Mahou Sensei Negima- I started reading this manga, and it's pretty pervy. It's about a kid who has to undergo training to become a full-fledged magician, and the kids training is becoming a high school english teacher. Despite the fact that this doesn't make a whole lot of sense (he has to hide the fact that he's a magician) it's still cute and fun to read.

    18. Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, The (completed S1)- This is all about Haruhi, a girl who is only interested in the supernatural. She unknowingly has the power to destroy and recreate the universe as she sees fit, and so Kyon, the narrator and Haruhi's only normal friend/accomplice has to make sure she never knows of her power or any of the strange incidences going on around her. The episode order is weird, but it doesn't even really matter how you choose to watch it. I can't wait for Season 2!!

    19. Midori Days- This is about a a girl (Midori) who goes into a coma and becomes the right hand of the guy (Seiji) she has an obsessive, stalkerish crush on. Seriously. I'm not making this shit up. All of a sudden she's this guy's hand. The series pretty much deals with how Seiji deals with this odd development. It's a pretty weird romantic comedy. Like Seiji goes to see Midori's body (she lives in this huge mansion) and her mother shows Seiji the pictures Midori took of him when he wasn't looking, like she's just perfectly okay with her daughter stalking some guy. And the family keeps Midori naked while she's in a coma. WTF? Put some clothes on the poor girl, already! Actually, I don't even like Midori either. She's pretty irritating.

    20. Moon Phase (completed anime)-
About a vampire who lures a paranormal photographer to see her in her castle. She then bites him and tries to make him her slave, but fails since he's immune to the supernatural (and since his family is made of spiritual mediums, he's like the family retard). It's funny and pretty cute, however, upon completing the anime I realized the story really left huge GAPING HOLES in the plot. Also, they overdo the washtub thing way too much.

    21. Ouran High School Host Club (completed anime)- This is SUCH a hysterical anime. Poor Haruhi gets dragged into being a host at Ouran Academy's Host Club, the club for all the bored rich kids to sit around beng entertained by bored, rich, and exceptionally hot/cute guys. I could watch this anime several times over and still not be bored with it. Not to mention the ending is sweet but just ambiguous enough to leave you thinking about it for a while.

    22.
    Ranma 1/2-
About a boy (Ranma) who's cursed to turn into a girl every time he gets splashed with cold water, with a father (Genma) who turns into a panda (they change back with hot water). They live with Genma's friend and his three daughters, one of whom Ranma has to marry to take over the dojo. However, Ranma's also been pledged to several other girls over the course of their travels and so the story goes from there. Lots of relationship angst and violence and such.

    23. Sayonara Zetsubo Sensei (Goodbye Mr. Despair) (completed S1&2)- This is about a teacher who's always trying to kill himself for the strangest reasons. In the first episode this incredibly optimistic/very ditsy girl finds him trying to hang himself and stops him (although she almost kills him anyway). It's amusing in a pretty dark way, and the girls in his class are hysterical... (the chain of stalkers in the second episode is amazing!).

    24. School Rumble (completed S1)- A romantic comedy about a stupid girl (Tenma Tsukamoto) who wants to tell her crush (Kurasama) that she likes him. However, Harima, the class delinquent, is in love with Tenma and can't tell her either. So the whole show revolves around them screwing up, with lots of huge misunderstandings. It's kinda funny, and I actually kinda like Harima. However, I have to warn anyone watching that it's really random and bizarre.

    25. Wallflower, The/Yamato Nadeshiko Shichi Henge/Perfect Girl Evolution (completed anime)- This is a pretty weird anime about four pretty boys who have to turn a very creepy girl (their landlady's niece) into a sophisticated lady, otherwise their rent will triple, but if they succeed, the rent is free. Sunako, the girl they have to transform, hates beautiful things because she believes she is ugly, and loves anything to do with horror and the supernatural (she treasures her anatomy models and dead things preserved in jars). The style is nothing special, but it's really funny.

    26. Yakitate! Japan (completed anime)-
I love this anime! It's entirely about Azuma Kazuma, a boy who is trying to bake "Ja-pan," which is a bad pun for Japanese bread (pan is Japanese for bread). This anime is HILARIOUS and I <3 it so much. It has these stupid cheesy moments but the reactions to the various breads created make up for it (that and the weird gags).

    Shoujo

    1. Ah! My Goddess!- Poor unlucky but stout-hearted Keiichi Morisato gets granted one wish by the Goddess Belldandy, sent from Yggdrasil, Heaven's vast computer system. He chooses to wish that Belldandy will stay with him, causing himself and the heavens loads of trouble. It's a sweet romance.

    2. A.I. Love You- From what I can tell, this predecessor to Love Hina is almost identical to Ah! My Goddess! in the beginning, except that instead of a goddess coming out a wall, there's a girl coming out of a computer screen because of a freak accident with an A.I. program. ...Seriously. The guy is an unlucky loser, the girl is cutesy and innocent, the school "queen" is jealous and trying to ruin things, etc... She can even change clothes immediately just like Belldandy. Yeah. It's cute and romantic and all that crap, too, I guess, although sometimes the girl's ineptitude is amusing. I actually don't know which came first, so maybe Ah! My Goddess! is the copycat.... *shrugs*

    3. Ai Yori Aoshi- The title is a sort of Japanese play on words, it's "True Blue Love" or something. It's extremely shoujo. It's about this girl who runs away from her well-to-do family to find the boy who she was supposed to be betrothed to before he defected from his well to do family, and her desire to still be his wife. Very cute and romantic.

    4. Air TV (completed anime)- About a wanderer charged with searching for a winged girl and the strange girl who takes him in (Misuzu). This is one of those animes based off a dating sim game, but it's really well animated (the art is beautiful), and the story is cute and sad. Plus there's a puppy named Potato. He's adorable. I haven't seen the movie, but I really want to (I just need to find it).

    5. Angel Cup- It's a girls soccer manga. I'm not really sure what else there is to say about it. It's just okay so far.

    6. Angel Diary- This was really difficult to put into a category. There's not really enough action in the first volume to put it there, but its obviously not a comedy but its definitely not serious enough to be dramatic. But the cute/shoujo part is really only minor too. It's really kind of odd, but not bad. It's about an angel princess on the run because she doesn't want to marry the prince of hell.

    7. Apothecarius Argentum- About a Basilisk (A person who has been infused with poison from a young age, who becomes immune to poisons yet poisonous to other humans) named Argent who used to be a food taster for the princess, then is set free and becomes an apothecary in order to help people, since he can create antidotes that may be too dangerous for normal people to make. It's a good romance and it's got some interesting politics in it. I've only read the first four volumes of this manga but so far it's excellent.

    8. Bartender (completed anime)- An 11-ep series completely about fine liquor and the duty of a bartender. It's actually really cool. The style is kinda weird (like characters who you think are just telling a story to the audience are suddenly interrupted/encountered by other characters and things like that), but it kinda grows on you. It's very unique.

    9. Boy Princess- A Prince is forced to take the place of his sister when she runs away from a political marriage. He is almost immediately found out by his husband, who doesn't really seem to mind. It's kind of interesting but I can't say that I like this manga's wispy art style at all, especially 'cuz everyone kinda looks the same...

    10. Castle in the Sky (movie)- A girl falls into the sky and right into the main character's arms (his name isn't really that memorable, sry). He decides to protect her from the military and the pirates chasing after her, and kind of fails. It turns out she's a princess of a civilization that used to live on an island in the sky, called Laputa, and everyone wants the treasures/military might Laputa holds.

    11. Chobits (completed anime)- Hideki is a simple country boy trying to make a new life and go to school in the city. He finds a discarded Persocom (computers that in form and some thought functions are human) and takes it home with him. When he finally figures out where her power switch is, he discovers that all she can say is "Chi," so he names her Chi and takes care of her.

    12. Di Gi Charat- Digiko is an outcast princess of her home planet after it's invaded. She comes to earth with her little friend Puchiko and blob thing Gema, and they all work at Gamers, a hobby shop. Digiko, in her cat outfit (which can be seen parodied in the last couple eps of Excel Saga), competes against her rival, "Rabi en Rose," (who dons rabbit ears and tail w/lolita dress) to be the princess of Gamers. I don't know if the anime is radically different, but the plot is superficial and dull in the manga (and only gets slightly better around Volume 3) and I couldn't in good conscience recommend this to anyone. My little sister, who is ten, seems to like it, though, so perhaps it's meant for children (though there is some adult humor in it...)

    13. FAKE- YAOI!!! A story of two policemen who fall for each other. Cop drama. YAY! The style and the manga itself isn't anything to write home about, but if you like yaoi that's not too explicit (in the beginning) it's pretty good.

    14. Fruits Basket (completed anime)- About a family eternally cursed to change into the 13 animals of the zodiac whenever they are overly anxious, sick, or hugged by someone of the opposite sex who is outside the family. Honda Tohru is an optimistic and somewhat naive high school girl who literally stumbles onto their secret. This anime is VERY sappy but still pretty pervy and amusing. I like it.

    15. Genshiken- About a bunch of losers in a club that is a combination Anime/Manga/Japanese Culture club even though they are made obsolete by the school's manga and anime clubs. It's about a new member to this club and a guy who doesn't look like an otaku but is, with a girlfriend who doesn't understand him at all. It's kinda interesting so far.

    16. Here (This?) is Greenwood-

    17. Howl's Moving Castle (movie)- About Sophie, a responsible young girl who feels she has to take over her father's hat shop, despite her own wishes. She runs into the magician Howl and ends up being cursed by a witch in order to spite him. She is turned into an old woman, and takes it rather well. She ventures out to find a way to break her curse, and finds herself as Howl's new housekeeper.

    18. Kaleido Star- So, I've wanted to watch this anime since I saw a really awesome music video of it at Otakon, and I finally got it. Even though it's kind of stupid, I like it. It's about Sora, a Japanese girl who wants to be an acrobatic performer on the "Kaleido Stage." It's really well drawn and animated, although I really can't stand the dub after a while. I really need to get more to comment on the story further.

    19. Kanon (completed 2006 anime)- There are two versions of this anime. I actually have not watched the 13 ep one but it looks crappy and I have no interest in it. It's another anime based off a dating sim, and the 2006 (24 ep) remake is done by the same people who made Air, so once again the style is fantastic. It's about a high school sophomore Yuichi who come's back to his cousin's town to live after about seven years since he was there last. He forgets everything about what happened there and he slowly regains memories from the people around him. It's not as sad as Air in the end, but its still got its moments.

    20. Kiki's Delivery Service (movie)- About a young witch-in-training who has to pick a new city in order to come of age as a witch. She learns about herself and her power of flight as she sets up her own delivery service on her broomstick. It's kind of a kid's movie but still really good for all ages.

    21. La Corda d'Oro (completed anime)- Hino Kahoko is a regular student at Seiso Academy (which has another half that's only for music students), but when she becomes the only person to be able to see the school's resident music fairy, Lili, she is forced into the interschool music competition even though she's never touched an instrument in her life. With the help of a magic violin she gets more people involved and appreciating classical music.

    22. Nodame Cantabile (completed anime S1)- This is an interesting manga and an amazing shoujo/music anime. It's about this kind of snobby music student (Chiaki) who plays piano/violin and wants to conduct who meets this crude, messy girl across the hall in his building that has a unique playing style (Noda Megumi, aka Nodame). It turns out that Chiaki isn't such a bad guy, and starts to like hanging out with Nodame. It's cute and pretty original.

    23. Nosatsu Junkie-
About a girl who wants to be a model, but has a scary smile. She finds out that the famous idol she wants to imitate is really a boy, and he gets her a job in order to keep his secret quiet.

    24. Please! Teacher (completed anime)- About a boy who discovers his new [hot] teacher's an alien, and due to certain circumstances, in order to keep her secret they have to pretend to be married. The pretense eventually falls away, in a sort of predictable way [come on. she's hot and he's a nerd]. Although there's obviously that "best friend" character who gets super jealous. Pocky makes a lot of appearances in this anime (it's the alien teachers fave snack), which makes me happy. Also as a warning, the last episode is pretty much softcore hentai.

    25. Princess Ai- The Princess of Ai-Land gets transported to our world with almost no memories and a pendant/key thing, I think. It's been a while since I've read this manga, but I remember enjoying it. I should probably get to rereading and finishing it though.

    26. Romeo x Juliet (completed anime)-

    27. Rose of Versailles (completed anime)- A pre-French Revolution anime, about the queen Marie Antoinette's guard, Oscar, a woman raised as a man. This is a blend of drama and a lot of shoujo when it comes to the nobles in court and stuff like that. Towards the end there's a lot more action (what with the commoners rising up and all) and the ending itself is just kinda iffy and boring, but that's only the last episode.

    28. Shuffle! (completed anime)- So this is one of those stupid harem animes but at first I kinda liked it. Basically it's about this guy (Rin) who is taken care of by one of the most popular girls in his school (Kaede). Then all of a sudden two princesses come from the God and Demon world and Rin is told he must choose one of them to marry. Undeniably more girls who like him pop up and for a while it's amusing because he has to run from being beat up by several fan clubs, one of which is the KKK-Kaede's fan club (yes, they actually say, "I'm in the KKK!"). However, it just gets weird. It's like a combination of Maburaho and Kanon or something.

    29. Spirited Away (movie)- The Miyazaki movie most Americans are probably familiar with, it's about a girl (Chihiro) who is moving with her family when they stumble on some old mysterious ruins. They cross a bridge and enter a spiritual realm, where Chihiro's parents eat some of the food and are turned into pigs (because of their gluttony). Chihiro "loses" her name and becomes Sen, and with the mysterious Haku's help, she must make the witch Baba turn her parents back. A brilliant movie, but as you can see, all Miyazaki movies are HIGHLY recommended. Another note: All Miyazaki movies are a blend of action and subtle romance, I just put the ones that were more one or the other in each category.

    30. Vampire Knight (completed S1)- As a little girl, Yuki was rescued from a malicious vampire by another vampire, a "pureblood" named Kuran Kaname. She is taken in by the chairman of Cross Academy and years later becomes a prefect at the school, working with her adopted sibling Zero to protect the day class students from the Night Class, a group of exceptionally beautiful young vampires.

    Serious/Dramatic

    1. Baccano!- Er, I've only seen one ep and I'm not sure where to put it, so it'll probably move...

    2.
    Barefoot Gen-
This is actually quite depressing. It's a partially autobiographical tale of Gen, a survivor of Hiroshima and the hell the common Japanese citizen faced before, during, and after the bomb.

    3. BLAME!- I don't get this manga. There is little to no dialogue. All I could glean from the first volume is this guy is trying to make his way to the surface world, and people are hiding underground in this tower thing from aliens or something? I just don't know...

    4. Chrono Crusade (completed anime)- About a gun-toting nun (Rosette) who works with her demon partner (Chrono) to find her missing brother and exterminate demons plaguing New York City. I really like this anime, even if the end kinda makes no sense. The style is good and the story is really good up to a point. Then you should probably switch to the manga to make heads or tails of the plot.

    5. Claymore- About a half human, half demon breed that protects normal people from demons, even though they end up being hated and feared. Eventually the demon part of them completely takes over and they have to kill the ones who are turning before they're completely overtaken. It's been a while since I've watched this so I don't remember exactly everything, but the opening is good and the animation and fight scenes are excellent.

    6. Code Geass (completed anime)- Britannia has taken over about 2/3 of the world, and when Japan is conquered it is stripped of its independence and its name, given the number 11(as in Area 11) instead. Lelouch, a somewhat frail boy, lives with his blind and paraplegic sister in Japan, and hides the fact that he and his sister are children of Britannia's emperor. Through a strange series of events, he obtains the power to control a person once when he uses his eye (this power is called his Geass). With this power he creates an organized movement to overthrow Britannian rule, both to protect his sister and to seek vengeance against his father.

    7. Darker than Black-

    8. Death Note(completed anime and manga)- Yagami Light discovers a notebook that can kill anyone as long as he knows their true name and their face. He decides that instead of being terrified of its power, he will use it to create an ideal world free of criminals or anyone to oppose him. Unfortunately for Light, the oddball, sugar-loving, genius detective L is on his case. If you like epic fight scenes and extreme battles, don't watch or read this. The fighting is all in their heads, strategies and counter strategies, and if that bores you, don't bother picking it up. Even though the end's disappointing, I believe its still worth the read.

    9. Elfen Lied (completed anime)- Really awesome anime about an evolved human (called Diclonius) girl who has horns and invisible arms which are ten times stronger than normal arms, able to rip people apart and utilize even the smallest of objects as a weapon. As a result, the Diclonius are being rounded up and studied, and the main character (Lucy) escapes from the lab, but gets shot in the head and loses her memory in the process. She ends up on a beach, only able to say "Nyu," and gets taken in by a boy and his cousin. The past is gradually revealed throughout the 13 ep series, making it satisfying to watch all the way through.

    10. Eureka Seven-

    11.
Full Metal Alchemist (completed anime, manga ongoing)-
About the Elric brothers and their quest to regain their original bodies after Alphonse (younger brother) loses his entire body and Edward (older brother) loses his right arm and left leg performing forbidden alchemy. This is (and always will be) my absolute favorite anime/manga. It's what really got me into anime in the first place. The story is amazing, the characters are all pretty well-developed (in the anime, anyway), and even with the anime's kind of iffy end it's still good. And if the end really bothers you just dive into the manga for more Elric goodness.

    12. Grave of the Fireflies (movie)- This is an extremely sad movie. It's about a boy and his sister trying to survive during the air raids of World War II. The worst part is it's partially based on a true story of one of the creators. It's extremely poignant and touching. Watch it.

    13. Gunslinger Girl- There is a lot of dead space in this anime. And dead space gets really irritating really quickly. It's like Technolyze, with the no talking for vast periods of time. I also don't really get the bigger plot to this. All I got from the first couple eps was that this organization pretends to heal fatally wounded girls by replacing their parts or whatever and they take them into their custody, wipe their mind, and make them train and follow orders from an "older brother" type figure who's supposed to be the guardian and take responsibility for them and such. It's weird. It sounds like a cool concept but the execution is shoddy. The second ep is also a RECAP of the first with some new stuff thrown in. That is just inexcusable. You know you have a piece of crap if you have to recap in the second ep.

    14. Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni/Higurashi When They Cry-

    15. Kuroshitsuji/Black Butler (manga ongoing)- I really like this manga. It's about Earl Phantomhive, a child in charge of investigating and policing underground dealings for the Queen of England. When his parents were murdered, the Earl (Ciel) disappeared and later reappeared with a mysterious new butler. It's really hard to summarize it without giving things away, but trust me, it's very good. There's also comic elements thrown in, considering that all the hired help besides the butler are absolutely useless.Although it gets kind of annoying, the investigations more than make up for it. I still have to find and watch the anime...

    16. Nausicaa Valley of the Wind (movie)- This is about princess of the Valley of the Wind, Nausicaa. In the world of the movie, the toxic jungle, created in order to purify the world of human pollution, is slowly engulfing all the towns and villages of the world. Nausicaa believes that the insects that live in the toxic jungle and humans can coexist, acting as a tamer of those who stray from their home. Unfortunately, several warring nations have decided that the only path to take is to destroy the toxic jungle, leading to turmoil between them over possesion of the ultimate weapon.

    17. Neon Genesis Evangelion (completed anime and movies)- Oh boy. Where to start on this one. Well, it starts out very normal. Shinji, an unexceptional, kinda whiny kid, becomes the third pilot of an Eva, a robotic giant that is designed to kill Angels, enemies who come down and wreak havoc on an already decimated Earth. From there it gets a little weird. There's a big secret behind the Evangelion units, and the end is really very vague. The movie (The End of Evangelion) doesn't explain things very clearly either. It's a classic, though, and it's not bad. Just confusing. Check it out.

    18. Paprika (movie)- About a new technology designed to enter people's dreams, in order for those trained in dream interpretation to psychoanalyze their meaning first hand. Paprika is the name of a popular underground agent who uses this technology illicitly to help people. It falls into the wrong hands and it's left to Paprika to save everyone from their own minds. This movie is really trippy but really good.

    19. Paranoia Agent (completed anime)- So I have completed this anime but still don't quite get it. It's about these people being attacked by a boy on skates with a golden bat, at least, that's the story at first. Then it turns out it revolves around the creator of Maromi, a very popular cartoon. I think the point of this story is to show how people try to escape from their problems and fail, and that people lead to their own failures and problems, or something like that. It's a very strange show.

    20. Princess Mononoke (movie)-

    21. Revolutionary Girl Utena- Utena, a girl, duels in a tournament for the Rose Bride, in order to meet a former boyfriend or something. I'm really fuzzy on the plot, considering I've seen a few late episodes and the movie, which made no FREAKING sense at all!!! They turn into cars! Like what the hell?!?!

    22. Serial Experiments Lain (completed anime)- This anime is just okay. It's not terrible, but its not all that good either. Lain is a schoolgirl who starts to get involved with "The Wired" (the internet) after one of her classmates commits suicide and e-mails her afterwards. She then learns that some other Lain is haunting the Wired and a nightclub called Cyberia (why middle schoolers are hanging out in night clubs, I don't know).

    23. Speed Grapher-

    25. Technolyze- I honestly have no idea what this is actually about. It has a kinda long, cool-sounding/looking techno opening, then there's no talking for the first half hour.... like what the hell. And this boxer guy is like, being raped by some robot thing who tries to pull out his eye, then he runs away and gets his arm and leg chopped off by some weird guys. He then crawls away and gets taken in by a artificial limb designer who makes him new limbs but also rapes him...? Then he runs away before they're finished and the guys who cut off his limbs beat him up and throw him down a sewer. Also, a girl who can see into the future is following him for no reason. Needless to say, this anime sucks. A lot.

    26. This Ugly Yet Beautiful World (completed anime)-
Alien girl falls from the sky and some random kid transforms into a freaky monster thing and rescues her. He eventually falls in love with her(maybe this should be under shoujo...) but things turn sour in the end(And if I told you why-which is also why I put it under dramatic-then it'd be a totally HUGE spoiler). It's only 13 eps. It gets a bit raunchy at times, but its not too bad.

    Mystery/Supernatural

    1. Bizenghast- I think this goes here, but don't yell at me if it doesn't because it's been quite a while since I've actually read it, and all I really remember is it's about a girl and some guy going to investigate weird supernatural stuff, she has to for some reason. It was okay but not really memorable (obviously). I'll try to read it again and get a better summary/review, but I wanted to put it down to make sure I don't completely forget it.

    2.
    Boogiepop Phantom-

    3. Case Closed/Detective Conan-

    4. Ergo Proxy-

    5. Ghost Hunt-

    6. Ghost Slayers Ayashi-

    7. Hell Girl6/10 as an anime 7/10 as a horror genre anime really.  The anime is good because of the new and interesting stories that come up, but its really more of an anthology (collection of related stories) of how the hell girl is used to take revenge on the enemies of the helpless (who are also taken to hell when they die, so in that respect it really is useless in the end right?)    Each episode features a new story and a new way in which the antagonists are dragged to hell.  I’ve only seen up to episode nine or so, but it doesn’t appear to have a plot other than this, so in that regard its much like paranoia agent. 4/10

    8. Le Chevalier D'eon (completed anime)- About a French knight (D'eon) who is trying to find out who murdered his sister, Anna, who was part of the Queen's secret service or something and got killed and her body was filled with mercury, making her unfit for proper burial. His sister possesses him occasionally when D'eon is in trouble, and there's all sorts of weird supernatural stuff going on (mercury zombies). It's awesome. I have to say that I find pre-French Revolution anime to be a preference of mine, so it's probably not to everyone's taste.
A historical-fiction/supernatural anime set in 19th century France.  The production values of this anime are decent, especially the swordfighting scenes, which are almost movie-quality.   A couple of complaints that I have about this anime is that its sort of slow, can be pretty generic, and the main character seems sort of bland.  Also you never really get to know the characters very well, except for D’Eons sister.  The show is about how D’Eon uncovers the mystery behind his sisters death and becomes intangled in a web of political and supernatural intrigue, fighting against alchemists and political enemies to avenge his sister’s death.   5/10

    9. Legal Drug- A CLAMP manga about two guys who work at a pharmacy but do odd jobs for their manager who can see into the future. The manager is always trying to utilize the smaller guy's ability to see visions when he touches an object with a strong emotional attachment or a person with their mind unguarded. Lots of yaoi overtones.

    10. MushiShi (completed anime)- Okay, so I can't really describe this anime without making it sound lame, which sucks because it's really amazing. It's almost like a medical mystery show. Basically it follows around Ginko, a wandering mushi master, looking at the individual cases he takes on. Mushi are basically these little spirits, described as the essence of life, or something like that, and they're drawn to people who can see them and sometimes interact with people who can't (mostly in harmful ways, which is why Ginko is needed to remove the mushi).
This anime is really quite good.  Its been out for a few years in the US and the animation is quite up-to-date.  Mushi are basically spirits that have different personalities and powers that can affect people.  The main character is what is known as a mushi-shi, a master of the mushi spirits.  He can control them and uses his powers to help people who are plagued by mushi-related problems.  I’d recommend this anime to people who like supernatural anime or are looking for a well-done and well-animated anime.  The plot seems repetitive in the sense that he always goes around helping people every episode, but it’s a very interesting anime because they take the theme all over the place.  I’m giving it a 8/10.

    11. Mythical Detective Loki Ragnarok-
Loki, the trickster god, is punished by banishment into the human world, trapped in the body of a cute little boy. He works as a supernatural detective and is just trying to find a way to get back to the land of the gods. He meets up with a crazy pink haired girl (Mayura) and the other Norse gods are trying to kill him.

    12. Night Head Genesis (completed anime)- This is about a pair of brothers with supernatural powers (the older one has telekinesis and the younger contact telepathy) who are taken from their home at an early age (against their will) and taught to harness their powers wisely. They make their escape and all sorts of strange situations find them, mostly centered around the "Upheaval" or man's transcendence of the material. It's really odd, and the plot just kind of disappears in the 22nd episode (there are 24 total). Needless to say, the end is really unsatisfying and disappointing (especially because Naoto, the older brother, was becoming a total badass, but they didn't really go anywhere with it) Still, if you like superpowers and stuff you'll like this.

    13. Spiral- About a boy (can't really remember his name) who's looking for his brother, who was a master at almost anything (namely piano and detective work). His brother disappeared when he started investigating "The Blade Children," and he's following in his brother's footsteps. However, it seems the blade children aren't too happy about this and are constantly trying to kill him.

    14. xxxholic- Watanuki has been able to see spirits all his life, and they're usually attracted to him (so a lot of times he just has this dark cloud overwhelming him, and it's pretty funny to watch him spaz). He just wants to get rid of this ability, and stumbles into Yuko's shop (Yuko is a cross-CLAMP anime inter dimensional witch who grants wishes). She agrees to free him, but only if he works part time until his labor is equal to this service. It's kind of typical CLAMP (one kinda wimpy guy who's sensitive and one who repels spirits and ends up protecting him, and they're both sent on 'errands' together- just like Legal Drug), but I still like it. It tends to be pretty creepy too.

    Action/Shonen

    1. 1/2 Prince-
A manga about a girl who wants to show her brother up in a virtual reality video game, so she gets special permission to change her gender to a really hot bishie (pretty boy). It's kinda like Mystic Revolution (a webcomic), which I also like a lot.

    2. Air Gear- About Air Treks and the people who use them to basically "fly." They have gangs and fights for symbols and power, etc... The main character is pretty cool, and he lives with four sisters (not his), one who kicks his ass everyday with different wrestling moves. It's entertaining, the fights are cool, and the concept is pretty interesting. As you move along with the story the humor gets to be super perverted and sometimes really gross, though. That's actually what put me off (and why I haven't picked it back up to finish).

    3. Alice 19th (completed manga)-

    4. Appleseed (movie)-

    5. Battle Angel Alita (completed manga)- After an accident, Doctor Ido finds and repairs a completely cybernetic girl whom he names Gally. With no memories, Gally helps the doctor and tries to uncover her past and the truth of her world and the overworld of Zalem. This is kind of a bad description but the manga is good, and pretty gory.

    6. Battle Royale (completed manga)-
This book turned movie turned manga is absolutely amazing. Super gory and sexually explicit, and amazing. It's set in a twisted future where the government has passed a military act called the Battle Royale Act, which states that every year a 9th grade class is chosen to be taken to an isolated area and fight their classmates to the death until only one remains. If they refuse and no one is killed within a certain period of time, then their bomb collars are detonated and everyone dies. The story follows one class through the horrifying ordeal. I can't stress how good of a read this is. It's really intense.

    7. Berserk (manga ongoing)- I LOVE this manga. Avoid the anime though, it's old, the quality's bad,and it doesn't make sense either, from what I've heard. The manga, however, is amazing. Gore and orgies galore! About a demonic swordsman(his name is Gatts, NOT Gutts) who fights to destroy his enemy, the man who branded him as a sacrifice in order to become a god. It's got a lot of meaning to it, so if you're curious go read it.

    8. Big O-

    9. Black Blood Brothers (completed anime)-
About two vampire brothers, Jiro and Kotaru, who are leaving their sanctuary to go to the "Special Zone," where humans and vampires peacefully and (on the humans part, mostly obliviously) coexist. However, things are not as peaceful as they seem, and they find themselves under almost constant attack. It's short, but a pretty decent vampire anime.

    10. Black Cat- Assassin turned good. Train Heartnet (aka #13/Black Cat) is an ex-assassin who befriends Sven, a sweeper(they're basically bounty hunters who can't kill) and Eve, a bio-weapon. I haven't seen a lot of it therefore I can't say any more, but so far it's good.

    11. Black Lagoon (completed anime)-Fucking awesome. It's only 24 episodes, but if you like gunfights and mercenaries you'll love this anime. It's pretty badass, with the only exception being some terrible English speaking at the end of the Japanese version. It's kind of odd, but the action makes up for it.

    12. Bleach (ongoing)- Ichigo's been able to see ghosts all his life. He meets a shinigami (death god) and has to become a substitute in order to protect his family from Hollows (evil spirits). It's also subject to some BORING filler (A WHOLE ARC-a whole FUCKING ARC OF JUST FILLER!ACK!) so just read the manga because it's awesome.

    13. Blue Seed- About plants taking over Tokyo. By the end of the first episode, the female lead is in her panties being chased by tentacles. That's when you know an anime is terrible. It's very old and the theme song makes me cringe in pain.

    14. By the Sword- Another manga about a special sword. This kid is seeking it out and finds it and its guardian, some hot/violent/gluttonous chick, and her father, a demon. It turns out he's meant to have the sword because they're related some way and they travel together to do... something. I forget what. It's just okay. It's not really all that creative, so it doesn't leave a strong impression. The style is alright.

    15. Cardcaptor Sakura-
This is a CLAMP anime/manga about Sakura, a girl who comes across a magical book. When she opens it, card come flying out, and she learns from the Card's Guardian that she has to go around capturing them in order to become the next Clow Master. Tomoyo, her best friend, follows Sakura on her adventures, making her "magical girl" costumes and filming everything. Eventually she collects all the cards and there's another series called Master of the Clow which resolves some relationship issues and Sakura starts to own the cards.

    16. Chronicles of the Cursed Sword- About a boy who owns a cursed demon sword that thrives on the blood of demons. There's also a sword that gets stronger with the blood of humans, and both are part of a demon plot to rule the world and overthrow whoever is subduing them, or something. It's good, I've just waited too long to write the summary. I do recall some excellent fighting, and the main character is belligerent and relies too much on the demon sword, so then there's the classic wise man character to straighten him out/make him stronger on his own.

    17. Cowboy Bebop (completed anime)- Classic. Sometimes it's kinda boring, but overall it's still okay. Absolutely AMAZING music. And if you don't like the episodes you can still try watching the movie, because that is really excellent. Oh yeah, summary. For those of you who don't know, its about an odd group of bounty hunters.

    18. D. Gray Man (ongoing)- I can't stop watching this anime. It's about exorcists fighting demons and regaining fragments of a cube that created the earth or something. Just trust me, it's good. And there's been filler but that's also pretty entertaining, so I haven't had to resort to just reading the manga yet.

    19. Devil May Cry-

    20.
    Disgaea: Hour of Darkness-

    21. Dragon Hunter-
A manga about a money-obsessed dragon hunter and his assistant. The style isn't really my preference but it's somewhat interesting.

    22. E's Otherwise-

    23. Flame of Recca (completed manga)- I REALLY like this manga's story. About a kid whose dream is to become a ninja who can create fire with his hands. He ends up protecting a girl with the ability to heal (his princess). It's cute and pretty funny. The plot develops well, the action is good, and the ending is decent. I say decent because the last chapter kind of let me down, but it's still good.

    24. Full Metal Panic (completed anime)- I liked the beginning of this anime... It starts out with this young, militant agent who has to go undercover as a high
school student to protect a Japanese girl. Then it gets into being a mecha anime and stupid shit happens and ARGH. I think I would like the spin-off
FUMOFFU better so I'm going to watch that and see how it goes. I'm not even going to take my chances with The Second Raid though.

    25. GetBackers-

    26. Gungrave (completed anime)- This anime was made by the same people who made Trigun, however, it's really not comparable. It's 26 episodes long, with no relief from the serious plot or the bad brotherhood yaoi undertones. Some of the fighting is okay, but the end is seriously anti-climactic. Other than that, there's nothing really that notable about this anime, except that the main character barely ever talks. And that pisses me off. Now that I think back on it, it was seriously a waste of time to watch. Summary: This is about a very silent man who joins with a huge crime syndicate in order to protect his friend and the woman he loves (Maria). He dies once, and comes back through "Necrolyzation" in order to protect Maria's child, Mika, from an assassination attempt by his best friend. Maybe I should put this in the dramatic category, considering that real action is scarce in this anime.

    27. GunxSword-

    28. Gurren Lagann/Tengen Toppan Gurren Lagann- A drama/comedy mix that is easily my most favorite anime of all time.  It’s a wonderfully animated show that doesn’t (and doesn’t need to) take itself seriously. It’s partly a parody on mecha-battle animes, so for those of you that dislike mecha-fighter anime – you’ll like this one.  It features a typical reluctant hero but with a strange twist: “Don’t believe in yourself…” is the motto of this anime.  Beautiful animation, well crafted characters and a plotline about restoring humanity to glory after its fall make this anime a 10/10

    29. Hellsing- Vampires. Zombies. And in the manga/OVA version, nazis. What more could you ask for from an anime? The original 13 ep anime didn't really make much sense in the end, but the beginning and the fighting still kicked ass. The OVA is really superb, though. About a police officer (Ceres Victoria) who gets caught in the middle of a fight between two vampires and then has to become a vampire herself to survive and serve under Alucard for the Hellsing organization.

    30. Heroic Age-

    31.
    Inuyasha-
Kagome gets transported through a well to the feudal era where she releases the half-demon Inuyasha from the seal of her previous incarnation, the priestess Kikyo. Together they must retrieve the pieces of the Shikon no Tama that was inside Kagome and then subsequently shattered by Kagome's arrow. This series gets seriously repetitive (which is why I haven't finished it yet, and I'm not sure if I ever will), but for a while it's okay. Miroku is one of the most awesome priest perverts ever.

    32. Jing: King of Bandits- This manga's about a very suave, young thief who steals his world's greatest treasures. He's accompanied by his womanizing bird-weapon Kir, who's all about the loot, even though Jing is usually after treasures one wouldn't expect. It's a really good series, the style is amazing and the plot is funny, cute, and very original. I think I love this manga 'cuz the author incorporates a culture into the world. At the beginning of the chapters you'll find verses from some folkloric poems/songs, guidelines from a travel book, and other things like that.

    33. Kiddy Grade (completed anime)-
This is about two of the oldest members of the Galactic Organization of Trade and Tariffs (GOTT), Eclaire and Lumiere. The girls are part of the special team that ensures peace in the galaxy, the ES, and it follows their adventures. Saying much else would be spoiler, but it's a pretty good show. Although I think it kind of goes downhill after the first half, when it starts to be super serious.

    34. Kyo Kara Maoh/(God?) Save Our King- Yuri gets flushed down a toilet into another dimension, where it turns out he is a demon king. Lots of yaoi overtones, but pretty funny. It's cheesy but I like it anyway, and the animation is good.

    35. Last Exile-

    36. Les Bijoux (completed manga)-
This is a pretty short (5 volume) manga series about the child of a dwarf and a hunchback, a pretty dark-skinned child named Lapis/Lazuli who is both boy and girl. After his parents are murdered, he discovers that his true destiny is to return man to the "golden age" from which they've fallen. This series had the potential to be really amazing, but due to the cut in length a lot of character and plot development also got cut. *sad* Apparently this is based off a book with the same name, which they say is significantly different. I'll have to look for it, I guess.

    37. Naruto (ongoing)- If you don't know what this is already... *shakes head in shame* NINJAS. Enough said. The anime(original, not dubbed) is pretty good until you get to the hundreds... stupid effin filler... also, there are a shit load of unnecessary flashbacks. If you haven't seen/read Naruto yet just go with the manga all the way and watch Episode 101. Also, the Land of Snow movie isn't terrible, so check that out too. Also, screw you Andrew. Naruto ROX MY SOX. =p So I'm considering writing something for people who just wanna jump into Shippuden, so they can skip like, over 200 episodes of the original series... if anyone's interested in this, let me know.

    38. Night Wizard (completed anime)- You will respond to the request I am about to make with an "Okay" or "Yes". Lol. Watch this anime. It's only 13 episodes and I think it does a good job with them. This is about a wizard who destroys these demons from the moon or something.

    39. One Piece-

    40. Outlaw Star (completed anime)- About some bounty hunter/do anything for money group that gets mixed up with some nasty space pirates and the key to some ultimate treasure (who happens to be a girl who functions as a ship's navigation system. Naked). It's okay but its not great, and it has one of the longest opening sequences ever.

    41. Pokemon-
Stop flipping out just because you see Pokemon here. Chill. I mean the old school, original Pokemon show. Maybe it just nostalgia but I LOVED watching Team Rocket get its ass kicked every week by a little electric mouse.

    42. Princess Resurrection-

    43. Pumpkin Scissors- I'm really not sure where the title comes from, but from the first volume this series is pretty good. This is about a period of relief/reconstruction from a devastating war, and most ex-soldiers have become bandits, so there is a specific military unit for civilian aid, called Pumpkin Scissors. They recruit an anti-tank trooper, who helps them out tremendously with his size and strength. There is a decent amount of humor infused with the serious story and action. The anime kicks ass too. This is definitely a favorite.

    44. Raxephon-

    45.
    Read or Die the OVA/Manga-

    46. Read  Or  Die  the TV (completed anime)- About three unusual sisters who fight with paper. Two of them are book maniacs, while the youngest hates books. They end up becoming bodyguards for a one-hit wonder of an author, Sumiregawa Nenene (I love her name), who is also associated with another paper user (Yomiko Readman) who is the main character of the OVA and manga, I believe. Starts out very light and turns serious, its really good.

    47. Saiyuki-

    48.
    Samurai Champloo (completed anime)-
Fuu, a young tea-shop waitress, helps rescue the two swordsmen who created chaos and ultimately led to the tea shop being burnt down. She has them follow her as body guards in her quest to find the Samurai who Smells of Sunflowers. The three don't get along very well but stick together anyway, which makes it funny. There's also a lot of anachronisms and parody of Japanese history. It's great. Full of excellent/unpredictable sword fights.

    49. Samurai Deeper Kyo- This is about two samurais (one good, one evil) who clash in a giant showdown then disappear. The good one resurfaces as a pathetically weak doctor with a bounty on him. It's revealed that the evil samurai has somehow become a part of him. It's pretty good.

    51. Shaman King- Yoh Asakura is a shaman-in-training. He meets up and befriends Morty, a little guy who can see spirits. It's been a long time since I've watched this so my memory's a little fuzzy. He has a kick-ass fiancé, Anna, and his spirit partner (Amidamaru), and he has to fight this ass Lenny and there's this tournament... sorry if I'm not making sense. I should probably go read the manga to jog my memory.

    51. Shana/Shakugan no Shana (completed)-

    52. S-cry-ed-

    53. Shonen Onmyoji- This is about a shaman-in-training, who kinda fails at his missions until his real powers get unsealed. I think that's what happens, anyway. It's been a while since I've seen this, and it was only the first four episodes since it was at Otakon. I really liked it, though, and if I can find and watch the rest of it this might become another favorite depending on how it develops.

    54. Soul Eater-
I've only seen two episodes of this, but they were really good. This is about a girl who's trying to become a reaper and her partner (who's her scythe). In order to become a full-fledged reaper, they need to collect 99 ordinary souls and one of a witch. However, when they go after the witch they find out she's not a witch at all, and they have to start all over. It's pretty funny and since I haven't seen much of it I had a hard time on whether to put this under comedy or shonen. However, the action is really good so I put it here.

    55. Spriggan (movie)-

    56. Stone- The world has completely dried up and is now covered in a sea of sand (called the sakai), and humans sail around in it hunting sand whales, dreading the "black tide" that might swallow them up at any time. Zizi lives on an island colony and has the unique ability to detect the black tide and survive inside the sakai. Being an outsider, she goes on a search for her true birthplace.

    57. Tokyo Majin-

    58. Trigun (completed anime)- Follows the trail of Vash the Stampede, who's wanted for 60 Billion double dollars for destroying an entire city and is an insane peace-loving goofball. Another classic, and the anime follows the manga pretty well from what I've read (and both are excellent).

    59. Trinity Blood (completed anime)- So I've completed the anime and it's still just meh. The only thing I like in the progression of the story is when they introduce the vampire queen who looks like a little girl. She's cool. The rest of the characters, I don't care so much about. Originally Abel was awesome. Then they turned on the suck. And I hate the vatican scenes. They're ALL THE SAME! "Hey guys let's kill all vampires!" "We can't, they're people too." "I'm a stupid little kid with a stupid voice, and for some reason I'm in charge of everything. WAH what should I do?" You know what, I hate the Pope so much I'm going to turn this red. (HAH! How's that for blasphemous!)

    60. Tsubasa Resevoir Chronicles- The main character (Syaoran) is in love with the Princess of his land (Sakura), and vice versa, although he would never admit it since he's only a low-born archaeologist. One night the princess is called to the ruins Syaoran is investigating and almost gets sucked into another world. Syaoran saves her only to discover that her soul is lost. He is transported to the interdimensional witch, and agrees to her conditions in order to search for the "feathers" that make up Sakura's soul before her body dies. He is accompanied by the light-hearted wizard Fey and a banished beligerent swordsman (I forget his name)... Anyway, they travel between dimensions trying to find the feathers.

    61. Ultimate Muscle-

    62. Vampire Hunter D-

    63. Venus Versus Virus-

    64. Witch Hunter Robin- Though Robin's stupid, stupid bike handlebars hairstyle seriously bothers me(I mean, come on, it looks like she stuck a pole through her fucking head), it's the shows serious lack of any interesting plot elements that gets it the thumbs down from me. I can't stand the boring, flat characters and the only "mystery" surrounding this supernatural anime is who would like this piece of crap. It's all about Robin, a retarded nun/witch hunter (thus the name) who can't control her flame powers right because she can't fucking SEE for the first couple episodes. I could only stand to watch the first seven eps, maybe less before I couldn't take it. According to Bryan it only gets worse, though.

    65. X/1999- Obviously an old CLAMP anime/manga, seeing as the end of the world is supposed to be in 1999... But it's still pretty good. It's about the guy who could be the savior/destroyer of the world. It's pretty typical fare, but the manga is decently violent and somewhat gory.

    66. Xenosaga the Animation- If you like the game's story, you will like this anime. I personally prefer this over the game, but that's just cuz the gameplay sucks. The story revolves around Shion Uzuki, a highly skilled engineer, and her creation of a humanoid weapon (KOS-MOS) for a futuristic organizations militia to fight against weird untouchable alien things (called the Gnosis). There's some very strange subplots in this game/anime which I won't even get into... However, the story doesn't hold a candle to Xenogears... Just throwing that out there...

    67.
    Yu-Gi-Oh!-
Okay, so there is a huge stigma attached to this series because of the way America bastardized it, but putting that aside the anime is still VERY different from the manga. The author originally intended for Yu-Gi-Oh to have Yugi's other half dueling people in lots of different ways, which he does. The card game doesn't even come up until chapter nine, and then they move on. In the first volume Yugi's other half (Yami) drives like, four people totally insane by fucking with their minds after beating them in shadow games, all of which are kinda psychotic. Example: the first bully he encounters he challenges to this game where there is a stack of money on Yugi's hand, and whoever stabs the most bills without hitting his hand wins. The bully gets greedy and loses, obviously, but yeah. He also makes a criminal set himself on fire. It's awesome.

    68. Yu Yu Hakusho- About Yusuke, a kinda foul-mouthed kid with a bad attitude towards pretty much everyone. He dies in an accident trying to save a little kid from being hit by a car, and is given a second chance to come back to life. After that he becomes a "spirit hunter" who chases down criminals from the spirit realm who have escaped to Earth.

    69. Zombie Loan (completed?)- About two high schoolers who died in a car wreck, but make a contract and come back as zombies (but they have their own will so they seem like normal humans and can control their desire to eat other people). They encounter a girl who can see the black ring around peoples necks, which signifies that they are either going to die or are already dead (zombies) so they use her "shinigami eyes" to detect other "illegal" zombies and kill them in order to pay off their debt and become human again.

Another category. As with all things, anime does have it's pitfalls. Thus,

Anime I Will Not Touch With A Ten Foot Pole:

    1. Dragonball (Z)- Do I actually need to say why?

    2. Gundam-
None of them. I just can't watch them. I tried, but they are just SO boring!

    3. Prince of Tennis-
I don't understand. Why are you getting all dramatic over TENNIS? It's just TENNIS.

    4. Love Hina-
I don't get this either. Why do I want to watch a perverted loser get kicked around by hot chicks and eventually end up with one of them for some stupid reason or other. They're just DUMB.

    5. Sailor Moon-
I really don't care how censored the English version is or what its really about, I just have no interest in watching it.... at all.

    6. Yu-Gi-Oh! GX- I don't understand where this show came from. It was like the WB just pulled it out of its ass like YAY! We'll put the name Yu-Gi-Oh on it and stupid people will watch and buy the accompanying cards even though it has nothing to do with the original show's plot at all! There aren't even any of the original characters! It's just BAD. Whoops, it is GX. But as its been said, who really cares?

    7. Any Pokemon/Digimon spinoff-
You can only spin something off to a point until it just gets ridiculous and completely idiotic. Pokemon doesn't know when to stop producing new cartoons. Like have you seen the show at all recently? I have had the misfortune while channel changing and it's pathetic. Ash looks the same but his voice just got freakishly deep. That is really disturbing.

    8. Beyblade-
Another kid's game anime. I dunno, maybe it's good for little people but I wouldn't know. My sibs don't watch it, though, if that's any indication of how good it is with children.

    9.
Astroboy/Megaman- Have you seen the crappy Astroboy they show on Adult Swim? Oh my god, it's so bad it makes my brain BLEED. You can't catch ANYTHING the characters say and if you did it STILL wouldn't make sense. Also, Megaman just bothers me.

...I'm making progress. Slowly. Very, very, slowly. I feel like the fact that I am consuming so much new anime/manga as we speak is really hindering my progress, but... oh well.

Ah, by the way, if you're looking for anime music (like an opening or ending you really like) try Keiichi Anime Online. I've linked it way back in the archives, but it doesn't stream anime anymore, you can just download free anime music. It's awesome.
If you're having trouble finding anime online, try AnimeCrunch, Crunchyroll, Anitube, Veoh, or just Youtube, you might be surprised by how much you can find on it.
For manga, the best sites are Mangavolume, Manga Share, and Stoptazmo.
    Hope this helps. Happy hunting!

Oh yeah, Final Note: If there's anything you guys think I should watch, just leave it in a comment. I will really try to watch anything. You could even make arguments for watching anime in the orange category. You'd have to be really convincing, though. =)

  • "You know you're better than this..."

I've had Headlock by Imogen Heap stuck in my head for a while. It's an awesome song.
So I guess a lot's new. I've been going out with Jin for over 5 months now, and I only have a year of undergraduate study left after this semester before I complete my Psychology degree. And I still have NO idea what I want to do with it. I think there's a seminar on Bachelor's level jobs for Psych majors. I should probably go. I think I'm going to get a Bachelor's level job and just save up for a while, wait for Jin to finish his schooling, I guess.
I can't believe I'm being so optimistic about this. It's so... weird.
Also, hopefully I'll be learning to drive over the summer.
I'm in such a good mood right now. I guess it's cuz I'll be able to make Psychology Club this semester. And the VP and secretary are people I know, at least. It makes me feel less weird to be there at all. I still need to talk to Bryan about overturning leadership of anime club, but hopefully we'll be accomplishing something soon. We really need to design the website, and I was thinking we should have a Facebook group too. Anime club could do awesome stuff! And if we could raise money like other clubs do we could subsidize the cost of going to Otakon!

Speaking of which, I know it's expensive but people (Andrew, Ada, Sonia) should consider going to Otakon. I can provide accomodation. It'd be like a freaking party at my place! Also, I'm making sure Jin goes so it'll give you guys a chance to meet him. It's July 17th to 18th this year, so mark your calendar!

I should probably talk about the second song too. It's from REPO! The Genetic Opera, a movie I bought and should have soon. It's a rock opera about a repo man who comes to reclaim organs from people who can't pay. It's really gory and visceral, I'd say. It's got Alexa Vega (she was at the showing of REPO! me and Erica went to, too!), the guy who played Giles on Buffy, and Paris Hilton (I know it might not sound like a good thing, but trust me, the movie is pretty good).

I got the novel Battle Royale and I'm almost finished. The manga follows it pretty faithfully except for the whole televised aspect, and some details on the deaths so far. Also, there's less sex. I have to say I still like the manga better, and knowing the outcome of the story is agonizing. You recognize the beginning of the scenes and you're just like, "Oh god, no. No. I don't want him/her/them to die!" Although I have to say the author's little commentary is pretty funny.

Anyway, I should probably get some reading done, even if I'm too hyper to actually concentrate. I don't know why or how but I feel so... light. Like for once everything may actually be okay.

    Alright, I'm out.

End of the Year. Huzzah and all that... whatever.

Hey, I'm doing an actual entry and not just an update of the list (which I'll probably do again soon anyways)
Am I excited about not having to do stupid presentations and after Friday, no more Anatomy until BioPsych? Absolutely. However, I am tired as hell. I spent last night watching and finishing Karin 'till about four in the morning, instead of working on my presentation. Then I woke up at 10 and worked 'till three(the deadline) on it and got to class five minutes late attempting to rehearse it. Needless to say, it sucked. Terribly. Hopefully I'll get a decent grade on everything, though. I slipped up with some powerpoint stuff cuz it was really rushed, but whatever.
I've been working on the rewrite of my story. Unfortunately, it still sucks. My writing style is so.. dull. And my dialogue is really cheesy. I'm trying so hard to make my characters more... realistic. The problem is, knowing that doesn't help. It just makes me frustrated with myself. So I've kinda stopped for now. I'm on Chapter 2, but I'm probably going to revise Chapter 1 more. Work on the initial ambush scene. Maybe I'm just not meant to be a storyteller. I can craft an essay with superb style, but my stories are just so lacking. *sigh*
So one highlight of my day was getting to give feedback to my Honors seminar teachers. One of my first statements was, "Everyone should switch to Linux. It's the only system that has never crashed on me."
And the IS teacher, Sy, goes, "Well if the guys at Microsoft keep being dicks about this whole Vista thing, people may just all convert to Mac or Linux. My only problem with Linux, though, is the penguin."
Previously we'd been talking about how Microsoft has announced that in a while it won't support XP at all to try and get people to switch to Vista.
I don't know what he has against penguins. SWITCH TO LINUX.
(Friends don't let friends use Internet Explorer, either) FIREFOX FOREVER!!!!
Now that that's out of the way (Bryan would be so proud--uh.. not that I care...)
The end to Karin was really good. It made me really happy for about two seconds. That's pretty good, considering how melancholy I usually am.
So I think I'm going to go work on my last Harry Potter essay. When I went to conference about my rough draft my teacher said it was a good framework, and was pretty excited about me pulling this essay off well. I'm gunna try....
Actually, I was so exhausted at the conference that I couldn't read more than a couple of paragraphs out loud. It was kind of embarrassing, but my heart was racing and I couldn't catch my breath long enough to read right. And usually I'm a very good reader...
I really hope college doesn't kill me...
I am also considering taking up a minor or two to add another year onto my stay at VJC. Cuz currently I could take 3 more semesters and one semester abroad and be done with my BA in Psych and Honors requirements. However, I already feel way too rushed and I need time to get things together for Grad school. And god knows I can't/won't/am not motivated enough to do it by myself.
On a totally unrelated note, I got into the self-defense class for next semester! *excitement*
    Anyway. Cyaz.

  • Conventions and Stuff

So Katsucon is in two days and I is excited. It'll be my first time going with a substantially large group. Unfortunately some people can't go Friday, or are only going on Friday... *sad*
Also, Otakon pre-registration just opened up, and I really want to pre-reg as soon as possible, and I was reading about becoming a gofer and I think my brother and I could do that. We spend a lot of time sitting around or shopping and we could definitely cut back on that and start helping out with the con instead. Also, we're probably going to be going to the con every year anyway, so we could both become TCG's in no time.
    I'm excited.
    w00tness.

*nods* who isn't a fan of Geass? you should watch Higurashi no noku koro ni, All I can say is that it kicks ass and make sure to at least watch four episodes.
  • queen_of_dream52
    @Argenis_sama - I haven't seen Higurashi. Code Geass = amazing.
  • Argenis_sama
hey did you like Code Geass or Higurashi no naku koro ni?
  • queen_of_dream52
@Lovelykag - It's Recca from Flame of Recca. I really like the picture, although I probably should switch up the background once in a while. Still, it's mostly white and makes things easy to read so until I find something that's equally convenient I probably won't change it. I try to explain why I

^_^ 'sup? o.o the guy on your layout looks familiar but i can't place him in any anime or remember his name >_< ! Hehe, you have a pretty good list of anime going! I love all of your preferred animes, and some of your non-preferred ones *cough*saliormoon*cough* i can't help it, i saw it when i
  • queen_of_dream52
@paradoxiac - Oh, yeah. The old layout wouldn't let me read comments and was kinda difficult to read, because I made it myself when the old xanga was in use. I figured the simple layout wouldn't be such a pain for people to read, though I probably should fiddle with the color scheme a little.
  • paradoxiac
You changed your layout, it used to be green!^^ At first it didn't ring a bell until I came and saw your list again.
